Cardamom Quartet is pleased to announce our upcoming season will focus exclusively on music by women and non-binary composers. The norm of concert programs devoid of these composers persists, and we want to challenge ourselves, our audiences, and our music community to imagine alternative realities. It is our hope that our work will contribute in part to a shift in the canon as well as an amplification of underrepresented voices.
In 2014, Cardamom Quartet was the string quartet in residence at El Sistema Somerville, an immersive after-school music program for elementary school students. Together they designed and led a weekly chamber music elective, incorporating chamber music skills, improvisation, open rehearsals, and performances. Committed to bringing music to a wide variety of audiences in the greater Boston area, Cardamom Quartet has performed in art galleries, senior centers, school programs, synagogues, farmers’ markets, and living rooms. In 2014, they were featured on the courtyard concert series at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square and in 2016 they performed on an education series at the library. During the summers of 2015 and 2016, the quartet was in residence at Avaloch Farm Music Institute in Boscawen, New Hampshire.
